wii fit game system is finally here

As promised the new fun way to stay in shape by Nintendo is finally here.  You can buy wii fit systems online but they are selling out fast from what I can see.  This will be a great Xmas gift and new years resolution in one.

The wii fit board which you stand on and which wobbles is the unique part of this game.  It is a new concept in game design that has many gamers wishing that it had a better use than weighing and exercising, like with wii fit.  Some want it used in fun games such as surfing and skateboarding.  I am sure those games will not be far along.

The board is similar to an aerobic step box with motion and weight sensing devices.  The game and board cost about $125 to $150 online.  You can only use it if you weigh less than 300 pounds, so really large people may be out of luck.    Unfortunately, in my opinion, the wii fit uses BMI, but you can just ignore that part and use it to get to your own personal goal.

Here are some of the features:

  • Strength Training: Put your strength to the test with muscle-toning exercises like Single Leg Extension, Sideways Leg Lift, Arm and Leg Lift, Single-Arm Stand, Torso Twists, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist, Lunge, Push-Up and Side Plank, Jackknife, Plank and Tricep Extension. Challenges include Push-Up Challenge, Plank Challenge and Jackknife Challenge.

  • Aerobics: Get your heart pumping with fun, interactive Aerobic exercises like Hula Hoop, Basic Step, Basic Run, Super Hula Hoop, Advanced Step, 2-P Run, Rhythm Boxing, Free Step and Free Run.

  • Yoga: Work on your balance and flexibility with Yoga poses and activities like Deep Breathing, Half-Moon, Dance, Cobra, Bridge, Spinal Twist, Shoulder Stand, Warrior, Tree, Sun Salutation, Standing Knee, Palm Tree, Chair, Triangle and Downward-Facing Dog.

  • Balance Games: Get into the action with fun, balanced-based games like Soccer Heading, Ski Slalom, Ski Jump, Table Tilt, Tightrope Walk, Balance Bubble, Penguin Slide, Snowboard Slalom and Lotus Focus.

  • If you have a wii system already, you can just buy the wii fit board and add it on.  Most wii games get you moving in some way, so you can use a simple heart rate monitor to see how much they are working already and decide from there it is enough.  I prefer to burn a set number of calories each week and use a treadmill and a heart rate monitor to figure out how many calories I burn when at each of several heart rates: 120, 130, and 140 bpm.  That way I can do whatever activity I want and still keep consistent in my workout plan.  Be sure to recheck against the treadmill or other accurate machine once a month because your VO2 max can increase by 4% a month easily, which means you will burn 4% more calories per hour for the same heart rate.
